(NOTE: In 2011, Faith Lutheran Church began an eighteen month long process to identify the immediate needs of the Millbrook, Philadelphia neighborhood. It is our intention to open our lower level as a service to the surrounding community. As of this posting, we have not concluded our study and we do not know what form this ministry will take. However, we are open to all suggestions and all volunteers. All that is needed is a desire to make our neighborhood a better place. Please feel free to contact us at flcphiladelphia@verizon.net with any ideas!)
Here are some of the ways through which we at Faith try to make Christ known:
- World Hunger
Faith proudly supports the efforts of the ELCA and the Lutheran World Federation to alleviate poverty and hunger around the globe.
- Mission Support
A portion of all offerings goes to support ELCA causes in the United States and elsewhere. These include Disaster Relief, new mission starts, schools, universities, and social ministry organizations.
- Aid For Friends
Faith helps this local organization to feed and care for elderly shut-ins in our community. Each month we cook and prepare hundreds of meals here in our own kitchen. More volunteers are always welcome.
- Feast of Justice
Year-round we collect non-perishable food items for the hungry of Northeast Philadelphia in partnership with other Lutheran churches in our area. For more information, please see www.feastofjustice.com
- Helping Hand Rescue Mission
Every month members of our congregation visit and serve the hungry and homeless of Philadelphia at the Helping Hands mission in the city's Spring Garden District. We encourage you to participate in this rewarding experience. For more information, please see www.helpinghandphilly.org.
- Christian Children's Fund
Faith's Sunday School children sponsor two needy children through this organization.
- CROP Hunger Walk
Every year members of Faith participate in a 10K walk to raise money and awareness for global hunger. The CROP walk is sponsored in partnership with Church World Services.
- Pastoral Care
As a service to our neighborhood, Faith extends pastoral visitation to patients at Aria Torresdale Hospital and residents of the Delaware Valley Veterans Home.
- Women of Faith
Faith's women's group, through community activities such as our annual Fall Festival and Penny Party, supports several compassionate causes. These include: Silver Springs Martin Luther School, a home for abandoned and abused children; Heifer Project, a program which supplies low-income rural families with income-producing livestock; Oaks Indian Reservation; Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots; and others.
- Alcoholics Anonymous
Faith is host to four weekly meetings of the Auctus A.A. Group: Monday and Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm, Friday at 5:30 pm, and Saturday mornings at 9:30 am.
